The state’s unemployment rate held steady in the month of October, according to new data released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The numbers showed that the unemployment rate only ticked up slightly by 0.1 percent to 3.2 percent. That figure, and the state’s labor force participation rate of 65.8 percent, continue to outpace national numbers.

The state is still seeing a near-record high number of non-farm jobs. Jobs only decreased 1,400 in October, down to 3,013,900, which is still nearly 33,000 more jobs than were reported in October 2022. At the same time, the labor force grew by another 3,600 workers, up to 3,142,100.

Over the last month, the bulk of these new jobs came from the government, the professional and business services sector, and the private education and health services sector. Over the last year, health care and social assistance jobs have continued to see significant growth with nearly 14,000 new jobs. The same is true of the service and private service providing sectors, which have grown by 38,700 and 30,400 jobs, respectively.
